About FabricStoreMap

FabricStoreMap is an independent directory of 10,710 fabric stores, quilt shops and sewing shops in the United States and Canada. It helps sewists, quilters and makers find a local shop, especially since JOANN closed its stores in 2025.

Where do the listings come from?

We start from public Google business profiles in fabric-related categories (fabric store, quilt shop, sewing shop, fabric wholesaler, notions store), collected through the DataForSEO Business Listings API. That gives each store’s address, hours, rating, review count and the topics reviewers mention.

What do we remove?

We keep only places where the public can walk in and buy fabric. We remove:

• alteration, tailoring and dry-cleaning services
• upholstery repair shops that don’t sell fabric by the yard
• trade-only design showrooms (they sell to designers, not the public)
• boat-cover, awning and other non-retail businesses
• listings with no reviews and no website, which we can’t verify
• permanently closed stores, including 848 former JOANN locations

How are stores ranked?

Lists are sorted by a rating weighted by review count, so a 4.8 with 600 reviews ranks above a 5.0 with 2. Featured stores are clearly labeled “Featured” and appear first.

How are specialties assigned?

Tags such as quilting, upholstery, apparel and discount come from each store’s categories, name and description, and for quilting, classes and yarn, from what reviewers mention. 4,533 stores carry the quilting tag.

How often is it updated?

Every month. Each store page shows the date its details were last checked. Hours change, so call ahead before a long drive.
